 AV Gloves

The range of gloves available are designed to exceed the rigorous requirements of the ISO Standard 10819 (ANSI S3.4-2002) for the absorption of vibration due to direct hand contact with vibrating equipment, machinery or hand held tools. The range of gloves available all provide maximum shock, impact and vibration protection in excess of the ISO standard, and feature:

  •  Durable, breathable pigskin leather, stretch Spandex, adjustable & flexible cuff.
  •  Anti-microbial lining
  • Sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL
  • Note sizes based on measurement in inches of circumference of widest part of hand (excluding  thumb) as follows:
  • Patented super-thin polymer Nu2O2 absorbs damaging vibration whilst maximising comfort and dexterity

3.18.2 Health & Safety Issues

Control of Vibration at Work Regulations July 2005 (UK Statutory Instrument 2005 No 1093

The above regulation came into force on the 6th July 2005 and will have an impact on many organisations and their health and safety requirements.  The range of PROFLEX gloves are designed to exceed the rigorous requirements of the ISO Standard 10819 (ANSI S3.4-2002) for the absorption of vibration due to direct hand contact with vibrating equipment, machinery or hand held tools.

The achievement *1 of the ISO 10819 (1996) standard certifies that the gloves achieve the vibration attenuation criteria set out in that standard for medium (TRM – 31.5 to 200Hz) and high frequencies  (TRH – 200Hz to 1KHz). The vibration reduction criteria for  anti-vibration gloves according to ISO 10819 are:

TRM <1.0

TRH <0.6

A reduction of 40% in the weighted vibration in the high frequency range [200Hz – 1kHz] must be demonstrated, whilst the gloves must not increase vibration in the lower frequency range.

The standard also required that the resilient or vibration damping material is placed in relevant areas to provide protection to the palm, fingers and thumb.

The gloves are therefore recommended for high frequency vibrations where the vibrations are perpendicular to hand or palm .   Currently there are no regulatory alleviations to the ‘Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005’ associated with the use of anti-vibration gloves.    Therefore the current benefits, whilst improving employee comfort and minimising the health risks associated with hand-transmitted vibration, cannot be used to increase the daily exposure limitations.  This does not mean that the benefits do not exist and, if in doubt, it is clearly preferable to have a purpose made, comfortable glove which users report as being beneficial in use.

When using hand tools or other vibrating equipment, it is important to maintain control of the tool or equipment whilst at the same time using the minimum gripping pressure.  To this end the flexibility and suppleness afforded by the materials and construction of the Proflex range of gloves is a key factor.
